Summary of mariculture production in countries neighbouring the European Union

Information on the production of cultivated fish and shellfish in marine an d brackish waters in countries neighbouring the European Union has been com piled from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN database, Fishst at Plus. Fish production has increased rapidly in the Eastern Mediterranean and North African areas since 1989, but remains low in the Eastern Adriati c. Shellfish production in the Eastern Adriatic fell dramatically in 1991 a nd has not recovered. There are indications of significant increases in she llfish production in the Eastern Mediterranean since 1995.
