The transport of divalent cadmium ions from high salinity chloride medium t
hrough SLM containing TBP in cyclohexane supported on cellulose acetate mem
brane into a strip solution with EDTA has been studied. Permeability coeffi
cients of metal ions increased with increasing the pH of feed from 1-4. It
also increases with increasing membrane and strip concentrations. At higher
concentrations of TBP in the membrane, metal transport was faster, further
increase in TBP concentrations up to 80-100% (v/v), the metal transport sl
owed down. The effect of temperature has been studied and the activation en
ergy of the reactions has been evaluated to be 48 kcal/mol, which suggested
that this process is chemical reaction controlled under the hydrodynamic c
onditions. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
