This article explores the experience of midwifery students who provided gyn
ecologic and/or antepartum/postpartum care to women in the Bedford Hills Co
rrectional Facility, a maximum-security facility for women in New York Stat
e. Care was provided for periods of time ranging from 2-4 months. During th
eir clinical placement, students observed that additional primary fare and
health education issues fell within the scope of their clinical and teachin
