An experiment to monitor celestial gamma ray bursts (GRBs) in the ener
gy domain 20 keV-3 MeV was launched onboard the SROSS-C2 satellite on
4 May 1994. The experiment is currently operational in space and has r
ecorded twelve candidate events as on 15 February 1995. Ten of these h
ave been confirmed as genuine gamma ray bursts by their near-simultane
ous detection by other GRB experiments in interplanetary space. The sc
ientific objectives of the GRB payload on SROSS-C2, its in-flight perf
ormance and preliminary analysis of some of the candidate events are p
resented and discussed in this paper.
