Abstract
A non-isothermal non-Newtonian mathematical model of the flow of rubber com pounds in a pin barrel extruder is developed. Both non-Newtonian (shear thi nning) and viscous dissipation induced non-isothermal behavior reduce the p umping ability compared to an isothermal Newtonian fluid. Comparison to exp erimental studies on three different rubber compounds in a laboratory pin b arrel shows the nonisothermal non-Newtonian to be in good agreement with ex periment.
