Mechanical treatment of CeNi2Si2 with the CeGa2Al2-type structure in the pr
esence of hydrogen (P < 1 arm) and at room temperature initiates hydrogenat
ion of this material. Under our experimental conditions the maximum amount
of dissolved hydrogen formally corresponds to stoichiomerry of CeNi2Si2H0.4
6. The hydrogenation is followed by increases of interatomic distances and
volume of the CeNi4Si pores. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights rese
