Abstract
SHORT-RANGE wireless connectivity solutions for the home and office, such a s Bluetooth, will simplify the transfer of control and data signals between electronic devices, As the number of devices equipped with wireless connec tivity capability increases, it makes sense to evaluate the effects of mult ipath and Doppler shifts, due to reflectivity and mobility, on voice- and d ata-transmission quality. Identifying the sources of channel impairments on the signals transmitted and received with this enabling technology is impo rtant for proper use of any new devices which are designed for the underlyi ng applications. In this article, residential homes and their short-range c ommunication channel characteristics will be discussed. With small Doppler shifts and the absence of large delay spreads, testing and performance eval uations of the short- range wireless connectivity inside our homes may prov e to be plain and simple when performed using designated RF faders and chan nel simulators.
