O. Gruber et al., Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura: MRI demonstration of persistent smallcerebral infarcts after clinical recovery, NEURORADIOL, 42(8), 2000, pp. 616-618
Abnormalities in the brain of patients with thrombotic thrombocytopenic pur
pura (TTP) are infrequent on MRI, often reversible and mainly limited to sy
mptomatic stages of the disease. We report a case in which high-resolution
MRI demonstrated multiple persistent small cortical infarcts after clinical
remission. High-resolution MRI investigations may detect clinically latent
but permanent brain damage, and complement clinical judgement in guiding t
herapeutic decisions.
