Abstract
Objective: To determine the background and clinical features of a group of women who experienced spontaneous regression of vulvar intraepithelial neop lasia (VIN) 2-3 before treatment was undertaken. Methods: A retrospective review was made of the records of 14 women who exp erienced spontaneous regression of VIN 2-3. Results: The women were 15-27 years of age (median 19.5 years). Ninety-thre e percent were non-white. All women were seen initially in a sexual health clinic, and with one exception, all had been treated previously for genital condyloma acuminata. Four of the 14 cases were pregnancy-associated. Half of the women were asymptomatic. The transit time to regression of VIN 2-3 w as 3-30 months (median 9.5 months). The median follow-up was 3 years. All l esions were multiple and pigmented. Conclusion: Spontaneous regression of VIN 2-3 can occur in young women with multifocal pigmented lesions. (Obstet Gynecol 2000;96:470-2.
