A simple expression for the first coordination shell of the radial distribu
tion function of the reference hard-sphere fluid is used in combination wit
h Barker-Henderson perturbation theory to obtain the thermodynamic properti
es of triangular-well fluids. These properties are expressed analytically i
n terms of density, temperature, and range of the potential. It is found th
at the results are accurate for a wide range of densities and temperatures
in comparison with existing simulation data. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.
