Abstract
Motivated by several recent papers on string-inspired calculations in quant um electrodynamics (QED), we here present the use of world-line techniques in order to calculate the vacuum polarization and effective action in scala r and spinor QED with an external arbitrary constant electromagnetic field configuration.
