Abstract
Interaction between cerium ions and the glass surface has been examined by XPS and EXAFS. The study demonstrated an affinity between the glass surface and the cerium ions present in solution and a temperature dependent bondin g interaction was observed with a cerium(III) species bonding via oxygen at oms A similar surface species was observed on conventially polished glass s amples.
