Abstract
Following the reconstruction of Eko Stahl GmbH, which started in 1990 and c omprised the modernization of the sintering plant, the new blast furnace 5 A and the new hot rolling mill, investments to upgrade the BOF shop - with special focus on ladle metallurgy - as well as the clear alignment of the c old rolling mill to high-grade products, Eko Stahl recently completed anoth er major investment project on schedule, namely the new No. 2 hot-dip galva nizing line. This investment is the first fully privately funded expansion of the plant. The new line will raise Eko Stahl's hot-dip galvanizing capac ity from 420 000 t/a to 794 000 t/a, boosting the surface treated share of finished rolled products to more than 60 %. The following article describes the components of the new line. Thanks to the capability of the new line t o produce highest quality hot-dip galvanized strip, Eko Stahl GmbH can now supply the complete range of flat steel products to the automotive industry for exposed and non-exposed applications. The grades ranging from IF steel s to higher strength steels will be galvanized and the Galvanneal range wil l be extended to include strip thicknesses from 0,3 - 1,6 mm.
