Abstract
Viruses assemble protective capsids from several copies of one or a few str uctural proteins. This is accomplished through a combination of conformatio nal flexibility and control mechanisms that restrict this flexibility. This review will discuss some of these mechanisms in light of the many recent r esults in this area.
