Hair transplantation for the treatment of male pattern alopecia is a c
ommonly performed cosmetic procedure, The punch autograft technique is
frequently employed and is notable for its simplicity and low complic
ation rate.(1-3) Arteriovenous fistula of the scalp is an infrequent c
omplication.(4-8) Detailed angiographic and histopathologic features o
f these lesions, as well as their similarity to congenital vascular ma
lformations of the scalp, have not been described previously, This art
icle describes the angioarchitecture, combined endovascular and surgic
al management, and histopathology of an arteriovenous fistula of the s
calp resulting from punch autograft hair transplantation. The importan
ce of detailed angiographic analysis of the lesion for a successful tr
eatment outcome is emphasized.
