By reaction of hexamethyldisilazane with aluminium trichloride in hexane he
xamethyldisilazane-trichloroaluminum [(H3C)(3)Si](2)NH . AlCl3 is formed. T
he adduct has been characterized by MS, IR, Raman, H-1, C-13, Al-27, Si-29
NMR spectroscopy, and by a crystal structure determination (1425 independen
t reflections, R = 0.035). The space group is Pbca with a = 1312,6(5), b =
1182,9(5), c = 1964,7(5) pm; Z = 8. [(H3C)(3)Si](2)NH . AlCl3 forms monomer
ic units which have point symmetry C-1 and exhibit an Al-N bond length of 1
93,9(3) pm.
