Hp. Chapman et Br. Gearey, Palaeoecology and the perception of prehistoric landscapes: Some comments on visual approaches to phenomenology, ANTIQUITY, 74(284), 2000, pp. 316-319
Interpretation of archaeological landscapes has developed within two main d
isciplines. Social theory has provided a foundation for understanding cultu
ral landscapes, and palaeoecology has provided techniques for understanding
physical landscapes. Despite their potentially complementary nature the tw
o approaches remain polarized, and as described here, result int he incompl
ete studies of past landscapes.
