Ly. Khriachtchev et al., OPTICAL-PROPERTIES OF AMORPHOUS DIAMOND PREPARED BY A MASS-SEPARATED ION-BEAM - CORRELATION WITH THE RAMAN-SPECTRA, Journal of applied physics, 82(1), 1997, pp. 413-418
The optical properties of amorphous-diamond films prepared by a mass-s
eparated ion beam are studied and compared with the shape of the corre
sponding Raman spectra. The Raman measurements with moderate spatial r
esolution indicate that the films possess the sp(3) fraction distribut
ed along the film surface, the thinner edges being less diamondlike th
an the thicker center. The optical parameters of the him material, suc
h as the refractive index and absorption coefficient, follow the spati
al changes of the sp(3) fraction, and the amorphous-diamond center is
characterized by a relatively high refractive index (n similar to 2.50
) and quite low absorption (alpha similar to 0.2 x 10(4) cm(-1) at 633
nm). Numerical correlation between the Raman spectra and optical para
meters proposes a common origin for their spatial distribution, namely
, impurities perturbing the three-dimensional diamondlike network and
causing sp(2)-coordinated carbon areas. (C) 1997 American Institute of
