Abstract
By coupling to cholesterol, Hedgehog can be anchored to the cells where it
is made, yet to act as a morphogen, it must be able to move away from its s
ource. Novel genes have now been identified that control the release and di
spersal of Hedgehog, shedding new light on the part played by cholesterol i
n these processes.
