Abstract
Epithelial structures, such as the wing hairs and ommatidia in Drosophila, are aligned in the plane of the epithelium. This planar polarity requires t he transmembrane receptor Frizzled. Recent studies have shed new light on m echanisms that could be involved in generating or transducing the polarity signal.
