Abstract
The experimental densities and speeds of sound, of H2O-KCl-MgCl2-CaCl2 and H2O-KCl-MgCl2-CaCl2-NaCl systems are reported at ionic strength 3 mol kg(-1 ) and at 298.15 K. Mean apparent molar volumes and adiabatic compressibilit ies are derived from these densities and speeds of sound, which are analyse d in terms of Young's rule of mixing. The properties calculated from Delta( mix)V and Delta(mix) K show good agreement with those obtained from the exp eriments. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
