Ip. Theron et al., Extensions to the hybrid method of moments/uniform GTD formulation for sources located close to a smooth convex surface, IEEE ANTENN, 48(6), 2000, pp. 940-945
In this paper, we present an extension to the uniform geometrical theory of
diffraction (GTD) for reflection from smooth curved surfaces. This approac
h allows the source to be much closer to the reflecting surface than the co
nventional uniform GTD formulation and does not require a Hertzian dipole s
ource. In essence, the field point is mirrored in the plane tangential to t
he specular (reflection) point; the incident field is then calculated at th
e mirror point and the uniform GTD reflection coefficients are used to mirr
or this held to the original held point. This formulation reduces exactly t
o the conventional uniform GTD if the incident field is ray optical. The ap
plication to a hybrid method of moments (MoM)/GTD code is outlined and resu
lts computed using this code are presented for a dipole radiating in the vi
cinity of a cylinder.
