The Kachanov method is modified to analyze 2D crack-crack interactions in b
rittle solids under compression. Motivated by the sliding crack mechanism,
the interaction of frictional cracks is considered first, followed by the i
nteraction of straight winged cracks subject to a pair of concentrated forc
es and external compression. The obtained approximate solutions for SIFs ar
e compared with the "exact" numerical ones obtained via a boundary element
method.
