A procedure for solving the radiative transfer equation (RTE) is considered
. This procedure is based on representing the zero azimuthal harmonic (ZAH)
of the scattering phase function as a combination of the Dirac delta-funct
ion and a smoothed ZAH. Unlike the conventional transport approximation, th
e procedure that separates out the delta-anisotropy term in the phase funct
ion generates a need for solving the RTE with characteristics dependent on
the direction of light propagation. Such a procedure makes it possible to a
chieve better agreement between the properties of the smoothed ZAH and the
potentialities of the quadrature formulas applied to solve the RTE. Procedu
re errors are estimated for different characteristics of the propagation me
dium.
