XYRIS L SECTION POMATOXYRIS ENDL (XYRIDACEAE) IN AUSTRALIA

A systematic study of the endemic Australian section Pomatoxyris Endl. of the genus Xyris is presented. Eighteen species are recognised, of which Xyris atrovirida, X. exilis and X: maxima A.N.Doust & B.J.Conn a re described for the first time. Xyris bracteata R.Br. is reinstated f or the taxon more recently known as Xyris gracilis R.Br. subsp. laxa O .D.Evans. Xyris gracilis R.Br. subsp. tasmanica D.I.Morris is here rai sed to specific status as X. tasmanica (D.I.Morris) A.N.Doust & B.J.Co nn. All recognised taxa are provided with descriptions, distribution i nformation (including maps), habitat descriptions, nomenclatural and o ther relevant notes. Where appropriate, lectotypes are here designated for all previously described species of section Pomatoxyris Endl. whi ch are accepted by us. All species are illustrated.
