(C5Me5)(2)Sm(THF)(2) and (C5Me5)(2)Sm react with Al(CH2CHMe2)(3) to form se
veral products including the unusual isobutyl-bridged Sm-Al heterobimetalli
c species (C5Me5)(2)Sm[(mu-CH2CHMe2)(2)Al(CH2CHMe2)(2)], 1. No reaction is
observed between Al(CMe3)(3) and (C5Me5)(2)Sm, but (C5Me5)(2)Sm(THF)(2) rea
cts to lose THF and form Al(CMe3)(3)(THF) and (C5Me5)(2)Sm. No further reac
tion occurs between Al(CMe3)(3)(THF) and (C5Me5)(2)Sm.
