The reaction of 2,4-dimethyl-2,4-pentanediol with the mixture of dimethylal
uminium chloride and methylaluminium dichloride at 2:0.75:2.25 molar ratio
of reactants proceeded yielding the complex Cl5Al3[OC(CH3)(2)CH2C(CH3)(2)O]
(2) (1). The pure complex was isolated and characterised by means of H-1, A
l-27 NMR spectroscopy, molecular weight measurements and elemental analysis
. The crystal structure of 1 was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis.
On the other hand the reaction of 2,4-dimethyl-2,4-pentanediol with dimethy
laluminium chloride at 2:3 molar ratio of reagents led to the formation of
the crystalline unseparable mixture of complexes with the general formula M
enCl5-nAl3[OC(CH3)(2)CH2C(CH3)(2)O](2) [where n=0-4] (2). The crystal struc
ture of the product 2 has been determined by X-ray diffraction study.
