Abstract
Error-free transmission in dispersion-limited microwave fiber-optic links i s demonstrated. The principle is based on the frequency chirp generated by fiber-induced self-phase modulation which, in combination with the chromati c dispersion, lends to an improvement of the frequency-length product of th e optical link. Experimental results for 8 Mbit/s data transmission at 7 GH z through 75 km of standard single-mode fiber confirm the good performance of this technique. (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
