In a competitive professional atmosphere, collaboration is unlikely to evol
ve unless nurses create an explicit commitment to work together grounded in
the bellowing requisite conditions: (I)caring as a reciprocal ethic betwee
n nurses, (2) personal knowing as a mutual reflection that integrates the "
knowing" of practice and teaching, and (3) social support as a form of intr
aprofessional relationship. Discussion of these factors and analysis of sel
ected examples from practice and academia provide the basis for the propose
d model of intraprofessional alliances.
