Oa. Aleksandrova et al., Recent data on the lipid composition in suspended matter from the intermediate area between the Kara and Laptev seas, OCEANOLOGY, 40(3), 2000, pp. 351-355
Chemical group composition of suspended matter lipids from the intermediate
zone between the Kara and Laptev seas is studied by thin-layer chromatogra
phy with dame ionization detection (IATROSCAN TH-10). The basic components
of the suspended matter lipids are hydrocarbons and complex polar lipids, s
imilar to those found in the previously studied southeastern area of the Ka
ra Sea. The high content of triglycerides in the upper layers of the water
mass north of the Severnaya Zemlya islands is a characteristic feature of t
he group composition of suspended matter lipids. The distribution of trigly
cerides correlates with the localization of the ice cover limit, and compli
es with the process of phytoplankton blooming in the ice edge zone. The dis
tribution of the lipid content is determined by water stratification in the
intermediate zone between the Kara and Laptev seas.
