Abstract
We consider a simple mathematical model, which accounts for some common reg ularities of the onset of "red tides": the joint effect of various biohydro chemical factors and the dependence of the initiation of a self-induced blo om on the features of the temporal dynamics (rate of changes) of the charac teristics of the environment. Explicit formulas for the estimation of the " dangerous" range of the ecosystem parameters are obtained.
