A model for predicting the kinetics of outdiffusion of a phthalate plastici
zer from PVC at elevated temperatures is proposed. The coefficients in equa
tions describing the migration kinetics of these components are determined.
The effective diffusion coefficients of the plasticizers in PVC calculated
using the proposed model show satisfactory agreement with the values deter
mined by the conventional method. If no data are available on the effective
diffusion coefficients of the plasticizers, their migration kinetics can b
e modeled using the known values of the molecular masses of the components.
