Abstract
The design of a new beam line at the Pelletron accelerator laboratory (Inst ituto de Fisica, UNAM), for characteristic X-ray experiments induced by ion impact is presented. The description of the beam line components, scatteri ng chamber, detectors, and associated electronics is included. Uses of the device include measurements of X-ray production cross sections by ion impac t, other inner-shell processes, and ion beam analysis. Examples of results obtained in the new beam line are given, as well as Future improvements aim ed to perform more complex experiments.
