Today a good metal cleanliness is required due to the general trend of weig
ht saving by using thinner products. This means that the metal is subjected
to increased deformations during processing.
It is therefore important to define and to improve the steelmaking process
leading to the suitable steel cleanliness and to be able to assess it for t
he relevant products.
Correlated results were obtained by Usinor and NSC by using several techniq
ues and samples. Recommendations for the industrial application of cleanlin
ess assessment were formulated.
