S. Shova et al., Synthesis and structure of nickel and zinc complexes with the condensationproduct of 2-formylphenoxyacetic acid and glycine, RUSS J IN C, 45(8), 2000, pp. 1193-1200
Two new complexes-[NiL(H2O)(2)] . 1/2CH(3)OH . 3/4H(2)O (I) and [ZnL(H2O)]
(II), where L is the tetradentate ligand resulting from the condensation of
2-formylphenoxyacetic acid with glycine-were obtained by template synthesi
s. The compounds were synthesized by reacting equimolar amounts of 2-formyl
phenoxyacetic acid and glycine in aqueous methanol in the presence of metal
salts, Complex I crystallizes in the orthorhombic system (a = 13.450(3) An
gstrom, b = 17.388(3) Angstrom, c = 13.036(3) Angstrom, space group Pban, R
= 0.0775); complex II, in the monoclinic system (a = 8.209(2) Angstrom, b
= 9.729(2) Angstrom, c = 14.568(3) Angstrom, beta = 98.53(3)degrees, space
group P2(1)/c, R = 0.0340). In complex I, the central atom has a distorted
octahedral coordination, The tetradentate ligand lies in the equatorial pla
ne, It is coordinated through the two oxygen atoms of the two monodentate c
arboxyl groups, the phenolic oxygen atom, and the methine nitrogen atom. Th
e axial positions are occupied by two water molecules. In complex II, the Z
n atom has a square-pyramidal coordination. It is displaced by 0.502 Angstr
om from the basal plane toward the axially coordinated water molecule.
