A new heterometallic cadmium- and copper-containing derivative of propionic
acid, CdCu2(CH3CH2COO)(6) . 3H(2)O, was synthesized, and its crystal struc
ture was determined [DAR-UMB diffractometer, T = 293(2) K, MoKalpha radiati
on, R = 0.0649 for 1487 independent reflections with I > 2 sigma(1)]. The s
tructure contains [Cu-2(prop)(4)] and [Cd(prop)(2) . 3H(2)O] fragments, lin
ked into zigzag-like chains by bridging carboxyl oxygen atoms and by hydrog
en bonds. The complexes are combined into three-dimensional framework via i
nterchain hydrogen bonds. The methyl group of one propionic acid molecule i
s disordered. The coordination polyhedron of cadmium (C.N. = 7) is a distor
ted one-cap trigonal antiprism.
