Abstract
Bismuth 8-quinolinethiolate Bi(C9H6NS)(3) Was synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction (an Enraf-Nonius CAD4 diffractometer, MoKalpha radiat ion, R = 0.035 for 1654 reflections). The coordination polyhedron of the bi smuth atom is a distorted psi-pentagonal bipyramid. The shortest Bi-S bond and the lone electron pair occupy the apical positions in the bipyramid. Th e Bi-S bond lengths are equal to 2.591, 2.646, and 2.673 Angstrom; the Bi-N bond lengths are 2.689, 2.790, and 2.845 Angstrom. The Bi...Bi', Bi...S(1) ', and Bi...N(1)' intermolecular contacts are equal to 2.978, 3.565, and 3. 492 Angstrom, respectively. These contacts unite the complexes into centros ymmetric dimers.
