pi-complexes of tellurium tetrabromide with aromatic hydrocarbons in extraction from sulfate-bromide media

Extraction and electron spectroscopy were used to establish that pi complex es of tellurium tetrabromide with aromatic hydrocarbons (L) of composition TeLBr4 form in the organic phase. Concentration extraction constants for th e extraction of TeBr4 from sulfate-bromide solutions and the stability cons tants for tellurium complexes with benzene, toluene, o-xylene, and pseudocu mene in chloroform were determined. The stability constant increases in the series of the alkylbenzenes as the pi-donating ability of the extractant i ncreases.
