Reacting K-2[PtX4] (X = Cl, SCN) With cis-diammines Pt(NH3Cl)(2), Pt(NH3SCN
)(2), and Pt(PPh3Cl)(2) (PPh3 is triphenylphosphine) produced nonelectrolyt
e binuclear complexes [Cl2Pt(SCN)(2)Pt(NH3)(2)] (I), [(NCS)(2)Pt(sCN)(2)Pt(
NH3)(2)] (II), and [(NCS)(2)Pt(SCN)(2)Pt(PPh3)(2)] (III), respectively. By
reacting K-2[PtCl4] with K-2[Pt(SCN)(4)], a soluble anionic complex [Cl2Pt(
SCN)(2)Pt(SCN)(2)](2-) was produced. It was isolated from solution as [Pt(N
H3)(4)] [Cl2Pt(SCN)(2)Pt(SCN)(2)] (IV) and [(C4H9)(4)N](2)[Cl2Pt(SCN)(2)Pt(
SCN)(2)] (V). The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, molar
electrical conductivity measurements, IR spectroscopy, and X-ray powder di
ffraction.
