Abstract
The crystal structure of [Cu(Oadp)(Bipy)(2)]. 5H(2)O (R1 = 0.0645 based on 3239 reflections with I > 2 sigma(I)) was established. The structure consis ts of the [Cu(Oadp)(Bipy)(2)] complexes and water molecules of crystallizat ion. The coordination environment about the Cu atom is a strongly distorted tetragonal bipyramid formed by four N atoms of two Bipy molecules and two O atoms of the bidentate chelating carboxyl group of the Oadp(2-) ligand. T he Cu-N bond lengths are in the range of 1.970-2.115 Angstrom. The Cu-O bon d lengths are 2.213 and 2.359 Angstrom. The second carboxyl group is not in volved in coordination to the metal atom. In the crystal structure, the com plexes are packed in layers parallel to the xz plane. The water molecules a nd the free propionate group of the Oadp(2-) ligand are located between the layers and link the layers through a branched network of hydrogen bonds.
