Mi. Afanasov et al., Electronic state of iron in layered nanocomposite compound of molybdenum disulfide and iron hydroxide, as probed by Mossbauer spectroscopy, RUSS J IN C, 45(5), 2000, pp. 771-774
The Fe-57 Mossbauer spectra of a nanocomposite based on molybdenum disulfid
e containing iron atoms in two valence states-Fe(II) and Fe(III), Fe(II)/Fe
(III) = 1.9-are studied. The variation in their spectral contributions in t
he temperature range 60 less than or equal to T less than or equal to 160 K
obeys the Debye model and corresponds to the following effective lattice t
emperatures: Theta(M) = 275 K for Fe(II) ions and Theta(M) = 320 K for Fe(I
II) ions. Beginning with T = 180 K, a new iron state emerges, which can be
explained by the occurrence of rapid electron exchange involving a fraction
of heterovalent cations.
