The activation energies of concurrent hydrolysis of Al3+ and M2+ (M2+ = Cu2
+, CO2+, Ni2+) ions for Al3+ : M2+ = 1 : 1 were determined. The activation
energies of polynuclear hydrolysis in the Al3+-M2+-NO3--H2O systems differ
appreciably from the additive values. The Al3+-Cu2+ and Al3+-Ni2+ heteronuc
lear species have the kinetic advantage over the two fractions of polymeric
homonuclear hydroxo complexes. The heteronuclear species forming in the Al
3+-Co2+-NO3--H2O systems are kinetically unstable.
