beta-Bi2O3, metastable at normal conditions, was synthesized by several low
-temperature methods. The formation of the fluorite-type cubic oxide BiO2 a
nd its transformation to beta-Bi2O3 were studied. beta-Bi2O3 shows synergis
m with MoO3 in the catalysis of propylene oxidation to acrolein, being, in
this regard, superior to its stable modification.
