Abstract
Experimental characterization of grain and grain boundaries of chromia scal es upon addition of La has been carried out with a variety of techniques. T he effect of lanthanum addition on the high temperature oxidation is explai ned based on simulations suggested by the experimental results. The grain b oundary precipitation mechanism of perovskite phases suggested by our simul ations is through the extraction of Cr atoms from the oxide scale. (C) 2000 Acta Metallurgica Inc.
