A simple and accurate flow injection spectrophotometric procedure was devel
oped for the determination of iodide based on its catalytic effect on the o
xidation of 4,4'-bis (dimethylamino) diphenylmethane (tetrabase) by Chloram
ine T in a weakly acidic solution. The optimum analytical conditions have b
een established. The linear range of the detection is 4-110 ng/mL, with a l
imit of detection 3 ng/mL. The method has been used to determine iodide tra
ces in water.
