Polarization-resolved femtosecond experiments are shown to yield valuable i
nsight into transition-state dynamics associated with ultra-fast photodisso
ciation reactions of triatomic species in liquid solution. After the fundam
ental act of bond fission is completed, such experiments reveal rotational
dynamics of the fragments, which can be used to extract information regardi
ng fragment rotational excitation in the asymptotic limit of the reaction.
