Me. James et al., IDENTIFICATION OF THE CURRENT SYSTEM ASSOCIATED WITH A PARTIALLY REVERSED EQUATORIAL ELECTROJET, Journal of Geomagnetism and Geoelectricity, 49(5), 1997, pp. 633-640
An abnormality among a series of geomagnetic quiescent days during Jul
y 1978 has been identified on 26 July using geomagnetic data from a ne
twork of 13 observatories in Indo-Russian longitude belt. This abnorma
lity has been explained by invoking an additional clockwise loop curre
nt system centered around 5 degrees dip latitude superimposed on the n
ormal S-q current system centered at 20 degrees dip latitude, thereby
shifting the focus of the combined current system to 35 degrees dip la
titude. Probable causes of this additional currents in the low-latitud
e have been discussed.
