This paper describes the attitude control of a small gravity gradient and r
eaction wheel stabilised satellite. Gravity gradient stabilised satellite h
ave limited stability and pointing capabilities. Thus, H-infinity control h
as been applied, in order to improve the accuracy of the attitude control.
The synthesis of a suitable H-infinity controller, using a composite weight
ing function is described. The trade-off between reaction wheel torque and
possible disturbance rejection capability using H-infinity control is discu
ssed. Also, the promising results using H-infinity control with antireset w
indup compensation are presented. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights
