Gj. Li et al., Design and implementation of class of robust H infinity control for stability enhancement in power systems, ELEC MACH P, 28(9), 2000, pp. 839-860
The paper presents a method of designing a class of robust H-infinity gener
ator excitation controller in a power system. The proposed controller is ut
ilized to damp inter-area oscillations and enhance pourer system stability.
The robust controller design procedure for a linear composite system is pre
sented in terms of positive definite solutions to modified algebraic inequa
lities. The resulting controller guarantees closed-loop stability and an H-
infinity-norm bound on disturbance attenuation.
The effectiveness of the H-infinity controller is demonstrated through digi
tal simulation studies on a two-machine system. The digital simulation stud
ies are conducted using a PSCAD/EMTDC software package.
The simulation results show that the controller contributes significantly t
o the damping of inter-area oscillations and the enhancement of power syste
m stability during disturbances.
