While variations of the common bile duct are relatively common, true duplic
ation of the common bile duct is very rare. Such deviation from normal anat
omy, if unrecognized, may cause problems during surgical intervention. Here
we present a case of a unique variant of an accessary bile duct which aris
es from the confluence of the right and left hepatic ducts and runs down to
join the pancreatic duct to form a long, common channel before opening int
o the papilla with the main duct.
